Tesco Call a Colleague

Working closely with Tesco’s digital transformation project team, we have now delivered nearly 200 kiosks for Tesco Extra stores across the UK

In 2017 we designed and manufactured a bespoke solution to help connect Tesco shoppers requiring assistance with in-store staff. 200 of our freestanding, double-sided kiosks have now been installed in nearly 100 Tesco Extra stores across the UK.

A free standing, double sided unit with two large format touchscreens, barcode scanner and printer, the kiosks are modular and futureproof, with options for the kiosks to be used indoors or outdoors. The nature of the project demanded a flexible and adaptable design; allowing Tesco to monitor the units’ usage as the initial stores go live and make changes as they see fit. The retailer can change how the kiosks are implemented in the customer in-store journey by adding new components, offering additional extra functionality, such as a card payment facility.

Introduced in the 1990’s, the Tesco Extra stores are the retailer’s largest format, usually in out of town locations. With a wide range of stock such as electrical and clothes on offer in addition to groceries, Tesco needed a tool to assist their customer service teams to deliver an excellent experience in the most effective way.

Our “Call a Colleague” kiosks allow customers to request assistance from a centrally located point, specifying which department they are interested in, ensuring that an expert staff member can come directly to them.

To maximise productivity and conversion, customers in Tesco Extra stores should be able to seamlessly navigate their way around the numerous departments and speak the most appropriate staff member for their enquiry. This might be customer service, order collection, electronics purchase advice or garment stock information.

Instead of stationing members of staff either behind a customer service desk or spread around departments on the off chance a customer might have an enquiry, a clearly marked kiosk point allows customers to select the service they require and rapidly have a staff member from the relevant department to assist with further information, a demonstration and ultimately a purchase.

“Tesco commissioned us to design and manufacture bespoke units for indoor and outdoor use, in-keeping with their brand. Working with Tesco’s other partners Quidni and Wincor on this project, we’re incredibly pleased with the end products which look great in store and are performing well. Retail continues to be a growth sector for us and companies are inviting us on board at an earlier stage, on a consultancy basis, to problem solve for them and input into the overall digital strategy.” – Neil Clark, Founder and CCO Evoke Creative
